Art & Science of Teaching Private Yoga sessions

In this online certification program with Christopher & Daniela, we’ll go through a proven curriculum specifically designed to help you with the knowledge and understanding of how to teach private yoga lessons.

It’s helpful if you have a ‘client’ that you can work with each week, or, if you are join my next mentoring group, you can be paired up with another student to travel with.

Teaching yoga privately either in-person or online allows you to customize the movement, breathwork and meditation to serve your client’s needs in each session. Your income can be higher than group yoga, and is more predictable. You also have the opportunity to offer packages and series that will truly help you stabilize your income in this industry.

We teach this online certification course in 2 modes

1) Privately to fit YOUR schedule and pacing

2) Small group mentoring program, with 5-10 yoga teachers learning the curriculum together in weekly sessions

We currently have room for one in our 1-on-1 programs and are accepting applications for the Winter, 2023-2024 small group mentorship certification - space is limited and this program has a high amount of personal attention so you can expand your teaching business this fall with a valuable addition to your group course offerings.

Teaching yoga privately well is a skill that is quite different than teaching yoga group classes. Many yoga teachers have found and increased sense of fulfillment as well as an ability to receive good compensation for one on one work.

5 Benefits of Teaching Private Lessons

The popularity of yoga is growing, and more and more teachers are offering yoga, meditation, qigong and breathwork. Classes are filling and yet there is a hustle to teach enough to make a living.

Group classes are tuned to the needs of the overall group and often can’t go deep into an individuals needs for development and growth. Some students don’t feel comfortable practicing or learning in a group class where they don’t know everyone.

Private yoga lessons allow you to broaden your teaching practice and reach more students with the healing benefits of these practices.

1. Learn the Basics in a Safe Environment For Beginners

Learning the basics is key to any new skill or practice. You’ll learn to teach those new to yoga in a step by step manner that perfectly matches their pacing.

2. Focus On Personal Goals & Needs

Yoga can be very beneficial, and serves the whole person. One person might be navigating grief or anxiety, and another has chronic pains, or is recovering from illness. Some conditions require a moderate pace and adapted flows.

As you learn different styles of yoga, you can adapt your private sessions to serve the person in front of you.

A good private instructor can modify poses and select ones that work around particular challenges.

3. Be Able To Practice Yoga Anywhere, Anytime Even at Work

For busy people with busy lives, private lessons give them an opportunity to fit you into their schedule. You and your clients both benefit from predictable schedules, good communications around rescheduling, and clear understanding of fees.

You can teach in a yoga studio, a private space or even an office setting.

Most group classes take place early in the morning before people go to work, or in the evening after the finish. If neither of those times works for your client, it can be hard to fit yoga in.

4. Advance Your Yoga Practices With A Broad Approach

Private yoga lessons aren’t just great for beginners, they are excellent for those who have practiced for a long time.

Some people find that group classes aren’t challenging enough or don’t focus enough on the poses they want to improve on. Sometimes, they find that the classes become stagnant, and they don’t feel themselves improving anymore.

In a private class, will create an individual program that’s tailored specifically for the needs of your client. You will plan routines that incorporate the poses, breathwork and meditation, and help your client to work towards their goals.

5. Tailor The Class To Limitations, Injuries, or Health Concerns

For some students, injuries or health concerns can make a group yoga class impractical and even dangerous.

An instructor teaching many students at one time simply can’t address your individual health concerns to ensure that the poses and practices are suitable.

With studio classes, you’ll often teach classes to serve everyone there. With private yoga classes, you will learn to adapt the class to meet their needs.
